FAQ

What is Competitor Intelligence?

Competitor Intelligence gives you a continuous view of how your brand and competitors are moving within market demand. It helps you understand who is gaining or losing ground, how demand is distributed across competitors and where your relative position is changing.

How does Competitor Intelligence fit within Demand Intelligence?

Competitor Intelligence is one of five views within Trendata Demand Intelligence. It focuses on relative movement across brands and competitors, while Market, Product, Consumer and Brand Intelligence provide additional perspectives on the same underlying demand model.

What is Share of Demand?

Share of Demand is the relative share of orientation demand within a defined market, category or competitive set. Trendata looks at how people orient across Search, Social and AI to understand how much of that demand each brand captures — and how that share changes over time.

How is Share of Demand different from Share of Search?

Share of Search looks at a brand’s relative share of search behaviour. Share of Demand takes a broader view of orientation, reflecting how demand is expressed across Search, Social and AI. This creates a more complete view of how brands are capturing demand as orientation behaviour changes.

Is Share of Demand the same as Market Share?

No. Market Share is typically based on sales, revenue or units sold. Share of Demand measures relative orientation demand. It provides an earlier view of how competitive demand is developing before those shifts are fully reflected in transactional performance.

Can I analyse the total competitive landscape as well as direct competitors?

Yes. Trendata can compare the broader competitive field within a market or category and allow you to focus on the direct competitors most relevant to your business.

What does Trendata compare between competitors?

Trendata compares Share of Demand, development over time, regional strength, category and product associations, and relative momentum. This makes it possible to see not only who is stronger today, but where competitive positions are changing.

What are competitive associations?

Competitive associations show how strongly different brands are connected to categories, product groups and product types within orientation behaviour. They help reveal the product spaces where competitors are building or losing relevance.

Can Competitor Intelligence show where we are gaining or losing ground?

Yes. By tracking Share of Demand and competitive associations continuously, Trendata can identify where your relative position is improving, weakening or shifting against individual competitors and the broader competitive field.

How is Trendata Competitor Intelligence different from traditional competitive intelligence?

Traditional competitive intelligence often focuses on company information such as strategy, pricing, financial performance or corporate activity. Trendata focuses on demand-side competitive movement: who is capturing demand, what brands are associated with and where competitive positions are gaining or losing momentum.
